Mint is an expense, net worth, budget tracking software by Intuit (makers of Turbo Tax). If you can make something like filling taxes somewhat intuitive I can trust you with the simpler things like budgeting! I have used mint for several years and what’s nice about it is its ability to connect with and download transactions from all your financial accounts. With all the data in one place, you can easily categorize, perform trend analysis and more. Once you have a sense for your monthly expenses, you can estimate your FI number. Use the net worth tracker to keep up with your progress towards your FI number!
Getting out of Debt
If you have tracked and analyzed your expenses and you realize your debt is putting FI out of reach you may want to focus on your debt first. I taught Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University course for seven years and I firmly believe there is no-one better on the planet to help you with that step. My wife and I paid of over $200k in under seven years utilizing his methodology.
